For those taking in the Simien Open House and others venturing to New Iberia, Louisiana ...You are deep in the heart of Bayou Teche Country where I grew up! I offer a few stops to enjoy the day. But first things first - a wonderful Cajun lunch experience. I always make a point of seeking out beautiful trees. Here's William Guion's Evangeline Oak photo. I call your attention to his blog The 100 Oaks Project.
It's Valentine's Day Weekend and could there be a more enduring symbol of love than the Evangeline Oak immortalized by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's epic poem about Evangeline and her long lost love Gabriel. It's a beautiful tree. Go see. Just 10 miles from Simien House. The Jungle Gardens at Tabasco on Avery Island: Breathtaking blooms throughout the year along with phenomenal bird-watching opportunities. Shadows on the Teche: Built in 1834 and set amongst moss draped ancient oaks. Take in the well-preserved home and gardens - operated by National Trust for Historic Preservation.

along the historic "Road to Baton Rouge" Laura Plantation is an extraordinary Creole heritage site. Through exhaustive research, the owners, my friends Norm and Sand Marmillion, were the first to present the intriguing history of Creole society and the unvarnished truth about the lives of slaves. Laura Plantation is at the top of my list for plantation tour recommendations.
A Painter Resurrects Louisiana’s Vanished Creole Culture Andrew LaMar Hopkins celebrates the rich contributions of 19th-Century New Orleans in his folk art style (and drag). I am delighted to share this NYT article featuring my dear friend Andrew Lamar Hopkins, aka Désirée Joséphine Duplantier. I've known Andrew for 30 years now and have watched him "pay his dues" in the art scene. I'm so happy that my friend Elle Shushan recognized Andrew's remarkable and complex talent and will feature him in her extraordinary Winter Show booth at the Park Armory on January 24th. Thus, she is bringing Andrew to the world's stage! Recently, I overheard Andrew tell a mutual friend that "I'm going to blow up!!" So I booked my travel not wanting to miss a moment of Andrew's career blowing up! Follow along with me. I'll have a front row seat covering this on my Instagram. See more of Andrew's work on his website. And when Andrew makes his art debut in NYC, he is being showcased by a premier antiques dealer with a booth at the front entrance of the show. Congratulations Andrew! I will be cheering you on! I treasure this photo from France, fall 2018 I'm at left next to Marie Victorie (sister of Baron de Pontalba), the Baron, Susan Maclay of the Louisiana Museum Foundation, and Andrew Lamar Hopkins We travelled to extend formal invitations for the Founders Ball and we gained the Pontalba's permission for an exhibition featuring their family's treasures for the Louisiana State Museum at the Cabildo. (Read more about the Baroness de Pontalba and the Rise of Jackson Square Exhibition and the family here.)
Here's another fabulous New Orleans jewel box exhibit! Historic New Orleans Collection Presents: New Orleans Drawings of Gaston de Pontalba, 1848–1851 I still get goosebumps thinking about when five years ago (while on my 2nd trip to their château), Charles Edouard, Baron de Pontalba, excitedly showed these drawings to me while I was visiting. He had discovered Gaston's works just a fortnight before. They are to be treasured! Reconnecting the Pontalba family to Louisiana has been a highlight of my life! The Pontalba family are guardians of our shared French Creole culture.

I CALL THIS THIS THE BIBLE! FURNISHING LOUISIANA Creole and Acadian Furniture, 1735-1835 by Jack D. Holden, H. Parrott Bacot, and Cybèle T. Gontar DUNLEITH IS SOLD AND TWIN OAKS NEWS! THE JEWEL OF THE CROWN! Dunleith Historic Inn is Mississippi’s only surviving Temple-type form antebellum home surrounded by columns Maybe you’ve heard that Dunleith Historic Inn recently sold to prominent New Orleans hotelier Joe Jaeger and his business partners Mike Blattner and Randy Waesche. The property is now in good hands. I join the community's excitement about this sale. Marketing this property allowed me to share my love, passion and belief in Natchez, and the interest I developed in Dunleith was global! Over three years, I attracted 24 qualified buyers and submitted 5 offers ranging between $3.5 and $4.5 million. The latter was an all cash offer in September of 2018 from a California client I represented. This was an extraordinarily difficult listing which required me to weather the challenges of the original seller's bankruptcy, the involvement of a court-appointed trustee, and an eventual bank foreclosure of the property. The foreclosure formally ended my Dunleith listing, at which point the bank pursued, without my involvement, a number of my prospective buyers, including Joe Jaeger. Because I was the the agent who first introduced the eventual buyer to Dunleith, I am proud to have been instrumental in this sale. I appreciate what Dunleith means to Mississippi and lovers of historic buildings everywhere. Vertical Divider
Joe Jaeger now joins hospitality legend Warren Reuther in choosing to invest in Natchez. More investment in this charming river city is sure to follow. Jaeger's Business partner Mike Blattner lives in Natchez and the group is already moving forward to reopen the luxury property as an inn, restaurant and event venue in coming months. For more information on Dunleith, view my 83 page property information packet here. The Jaeger team loves it! While Natchez is a buyers market offering incredible values for historic properties, Dunleith's sale and these recent events point to a stronger real estate market ahead:
